Do certain fabrics vibe with us?
If you run in certain wellness, holistic health, or spiritual circles, you may have come across the news about the frequency rating of natural fibers. We’re big fans of natural fibers around here! We love the idea that because we are all-natural beings, then it follows logically that we would have a certain affinity for natural fibers. So we decided to look into it.
The Background Research
It appears that most of the buzz centers around a couple of researchers and their work in measuring the frequencies of the human body and certain fabrics. But first, what are we even talking about?!
The concept of fabric frequency is based on the idea that all matter, including textiles, vibrates at a specific electromagnetic frequency. The term frequency is a measurement of the number of cycles or vibrations of something that occurs within a certain time period. This is easy to understand with something like sound—something high pitched is a faster frequency of sound waves while something low pitched is much slower. It gets more mind-bendy when we apply the same thinking to something physically dense, but everything indeed has a measurable frequency.
There are many rabbit holes to go down when seeking the origin of this story. To keep it simple, let’s begin with a nurse and religious studies researcher named Heidi Yellen. She was interested in some biblical texts proscribing the wearing of certain fabrics, particularly the prohibition against wearing wool and linen together. These mentions are found in the Old Testament in the part of the bible known as the Mosaic Law. Deuteronomy 22:11 says, “You shall not wear cloth of wool and linen mixed together,” and Leviticus 19:19 concurs, “You shall not put on cloth from a mixture of two kinds of material.”
So, the story goes, she tested the frequencies of different fabrics to see if this yielded some clues. The device used to perform this task is called an Ag-Environ instrument, developed for detecting optimal harvesting times for agricultural plants. Here’s what she discovered:
- Linen and Wool Have the Highest Frequencies – Pure linen and pure wool registered a vibrational frequency of 5,000 MHz, which is incredibly high compared to the average healthy human body (which she estimated to be around 100 MHz).
- Cotton’s Frequency is Lower – While still beneficial, cotton does not match the high vibrational levels of linen or wool, around 100MHz.
- Blended Fabrics Cancel Each Other Out – Mixing linen and wool together actually nullified their energetic benefits, reducing their frequency to zero. This aligns with ancient Biblical teachings that prohibit wearing mixed fabrics (like linen-wool blends), a practice some interpret as recognizing an energetic imbalance.
- Synthetic Fibers Are Energetically Inert – According to her findings, polyester, nylon, and other synthetic materials have little to no beneficial vibrational frequency.
So what does this mean?
Feeling the Natural Fabric Vibes
While it’s impossible to fully verify all the claims made out there concerning this topic, we know one thing—we can feel the difference.
Sleeping with our bedding made from minimally-processed, all-natural wool does feel different in a way that conventional bedding just can’t beat. It’s a phenomena we’ve repeatedly heard about from customers over the years. Once you’ve made the switch to natural fibers, it’s immediately (and sometimes unpleasantly) obvious when you’re surrounded with synthetic fabrics and materials. We don’t know what to call it…it’s just magic!
So while we can’t speak to the specific energetic frequency of our products, we can tell you that their vibe is high for these reasons:
- Truly Sustainable— From cradle to grave, grass to soil, our products come from the Earth and gracefully return to it. Sheep’s wool is renewable and, when done right, regenerative to the environment, helping to steward land and sequester carbon.
- Truly Ethical— The sheep we obtain our wool from are raised on green, open pastures just a few hours from us, and we maintain personal relationships with the ranchers. They are treated with care and shearing is done with full respect for their wellbeing.
- Truly Natural— No chemicals, no toxins, no plastics, no synthetic anythings. Just pure wool, organic cotton, and responsibly-sourced latex.
- Truly Responsible— We value the people involved every step of the way, from the farmers trying to earn a living wage with their wool to our production staff and employees, to—of course!—you, our cherished customer.
Raising the Frequency of the Planet and People
Just as someone might buy organic food to avoid things like pesticides and GMOs, when you buy from Shepherd’s Dream, you’re getting a product as free of problematic energies as any product could possibly be. Plus, you’re supporting a small, family-owned business—bonus karma points!
