Here we are at the threshold of Fall 2023, and the energy in the marketplace is a bit…chaotic. On the one hand, we’ve been emerging from the haze of the global pandemic and refocusing on home and our wellbeing, and on the other, the economy is wonky and news is dire about our planet’s ecological health. What’s a bedding company to do?
With travel season in full gear, bed bugs are in the news again. Their favorite hangouts are typically Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia, but recently it was reported that seven Las Vegas strip hotels have had bed bug outbreaks in the last year and a half. With a little bit of education, you can increase your odds of preventing them from coming home with you.
It’s been just over 25 years since Shepherd’s Dream began, and our All Wool Mattress was the product that started the dream all those years ago. And here we are, still selling lots of wool mattresses in our third decade of business. 100% pure, handmade, and luxuriously natural.
Ever since the beginning of our company, when we knew there had to be a better solution to a comfortable sleep surface than synthetic materials and toxic chemicals, wool has been our go-to fiber, for so many reasons:

Tuesday September 8th of 2020 dawned exceptionally warm and dry in southern Oregon, an area parched from years of drought with very little of the winter precipitation that fills reservoirs and keeps the land green and vibrant.
As April continues with its focus on all things earthy (it is Earth Month, after all!), Shepherd’s Dream highlights an important part of being a sustainable mattress company—mattress recycling.
It may come as no surprise, with Earth Day on the 22nd, that the entire month of April has been devoted to our planet as Earth Month. And what better way to honor that than by shucking your winter boots, thick wooly socks, and heading outside to give your feet a dose of sunshine and fresh air?
We’re fully in the throes of Spring, and if all the chirping birds and blooming flowers remind you of itchy, watery eyes and a stuffy nose, then we’ve got some good news for you. While we can’t do much about the tree and grass pollen outside, allergy sufferers can find great relief with some thoughtful bedroom upgrades.
It’s officially March! And while several parts of the country are experiencing some epic winter weather (us included!), the days are growing longer, plants are stirring beneath the soil, and buds are beginning to pop out on the ends of the bare tree branches. Clearly we’re really into wool—it’s our favorite fabric for clothing and household items, but it can be tricky to care for. Because of its unique properties, it requires special attention when it comes to washing, as traditional laundry detergents can damage or shrink the fibers. By rethinking our consumer habits and preferences, we can move from a linear economy that begins with natural resources and ends in trash, to a circular one that realizes trash doesn’t go “away” and that we are responsible for our impacts to people and planet.
