Shepherd’s Dream believes everyone deserves the opportunity to utilize materials that are healthy for the planet and for us
Here at Shepherd’s Dream, we’re committed to using only the highest quality raw woolbed materials available. Most of our wool bed materials are locally grown and produced right here in the United States. We believe it’s important to support local farmers and businesses in order to strengthen small, green industry practices as well as to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels.
We’re also pleased to offer raw materials directly to our customers so that you can create your own DIY wool bedding, crafts, clothing, toys and more!
EcoWool Batting
All of our products are filled entirely with our Premium EcoWool batting. EcoWool is entirely derived from local flocks of sheep that are raised following specific criteria that ensures top quality wool. Our Oregon grown, EcoWool batting is produced at the Woolgatherer Carding Mill, located down the road from Shepherd’s Dream.
Is EcoWool organic?
This is a question many people ask. EcoWool is not certified organic. At this time, very little organic wool is available on the market; almost no organic wool is grown in the United States. We find that EcoWool is actually cleaner and of higher quality than the organic wool currently available.
EcoWool is produced to the highest standards; some of these standards are beyond those specified for organic materials. We have access to organic wool from New Zealand that is pure and clean; however, due to it being only one type of wool, it doesn’t offer the kind of resilience or bounce that our Premium EcoWool does. Our EcoWool is a blend of about 7 different types of wool varying from fine to coarse in order to create the most ideal wool fiber for use in bedding.
We prefer the quality, loft and sustainability of our Premium EcoWool.
EcoWool Textile
Our all-natural wool mattress is encased with this EcoWool Textile and our mattress protectors are made of this textile as well. Our beautiful EcoWool Textile is produced in the US using the finest of wool fibers available. The elimination of harsh chemicals in processing allows this fabric to be soft, durable and long lasting, making it ideal as our mattress encasing and for use as mattress protectors.
Organic Cotton Sateen
We use two different types of organic cotton in our wool bedding line. Our thicker sateen is made from organic cotton that is grown and manufactured in the USA. This fabric is used for our wool-filled mattress toppers and pillows due to its increased durability. This fabric has a thread count of 322 and is 112” wide.
We also use a silky smooth, lightweight sateen from India for our comforters and washable pillow cases. This fabric has a 230 thread count, 113” width and is ideal for sheeting, comforters and clothing. Though our preference is to use all local raw materials, sometimes we have to compromise a little in order to find materials that will create the highest quality products we can dream up.
Wool for Crafts
We have ample amounts of fabric and batting scraps (also known as “craft wool”) that are leftover upon completing each item that we produce. There are many items that could be made out of these materials such as quilts, woven rugs, dolls, purses and clothing. Our craft wool can be ordered on our website in different size bags of your choosing.
