All Wool Mattress
$1,495.00 – $2,795.00
Enjoy deep, restful sleep every night with our signature wool mattress. For complete breathability and greater longevity, we suggest that the wool mattress be placed on a wood slatted frame.
The mattress is most comfortable when used in combination with our Snuggle Mate Wool Topper. We also recommend the Cascade Latex Base beneath the wool mattress for those who prefer a softer bed.
Our All Wool Mattress will compress about 10% during the first 6 months of use. In order to ensure even compression, we recommend sleeping all over the mattress and rotating it on a regular basis. With proper care, this mattress will last for several decades.
Our handmade wool mattresses normally ship in 2 weeks. However at this time we are experiencing a high volume of orders and our wool mattress can take 3 to 6 weeks to ship. We are not currently accepting rush orders.
Our pre-compressed All Wool Mattress is our most popular mattress option. Filled entirely with local EcoWool and encased in a 100% wool textile, this 5" mattress creates a resilient and supportive bed that will help you to experience deep, restorative sleep.
Customize your Layered Bed
Wool mattresses benefit from layered bedding. Not only will extra layers of natural bedding extend the longevity of your mattress, it also allows an opportunity to customize your bed for your particular desire and needs.
For extra cushion and loft, add our Snuggle Mate Wool Topper.
For more give or to help soften a wool bed, add our Cascade Latex Base.
Combine all three layers for our signature bed: 3" wool topper + 5" wool mattress + 3" latex base. This is our most popular configuration.

We’ve had our new wool bed for a few months now, and I really can’t get enough of it. TREAT YOURSELF. It’s the best thing I’ve done for us as far as big adult investments go. Well, getting a car was probably the best. But I love this bed even more.
We originally only got the mattress because we’d been sleeping on a 2” cotton futon for a couple of years, so a 5” wool mattress sounded like luxury and more than enough. There’s nothing at all wrong with the mattress, but getting the wool topper made everything even better. BY A LOT. It adds a ton of plush, yet it doesn’t compromise the firmness and support. It really is the best of all worlds. We got the wool mattress protector for additional protection from sweat and other inevitables.
We got some wool items from other similar sites, and they do not compare. They’re extremely high quality, and I have no doubt that they’re all-natural, healthy, etc., but the wool from Shepherd’s Dream is the best of the best. Everything is SO SOFT. It has next to no itchy or scratchy bits, and what little there is is unnoticeable. I can’t say the same for the other sources, unfortunately. We got 100% wool sheets and pillow cases from another website and ended up taking them off after a couple of weeks. We sleep directly on the wool mattress protector and naked wool pillows (we got the all wool dream pillows), and it’s truly a dream to get into bed every night. My genuine recommendation is to get the mattress, the topper, and the dream pillows. And then a protector if you have any concerns about moisture.
I highly recommend this bed for anyone that wants to get more natural and sustainable with their furniture. It’s extremely beneficial for your health and sleep, and knowing it’s high quality wool inside and out is just amazing. Yes, it’s expensive, but we’ll probably pass all of this bed down to our kids, and then their kids, if we maintain it properly. That’s the big takeaway of quality stuff. It doesn’t degenerate after a few years. It gets stronger and holds up for decades. That alone makes it worth the investment.
Why are you still sleeping on a box of metal, plastics, and synthetic fabrics full of chemicals when you could have a bed that’s literally 100% wool?!
I chose to try wool mainly to avoid buying synthetics, and for the flexibility of having smaller separate components. I trusted from the reviews that I would also find it comfortable, but I am kind of amazed at how great it feels! I sleep on my side, and had recently started to prefer firmer beds. This has just enough give but no sinking in, and it turns out that's all I need. I even slept well on the mattress alone for a couple of days while delivery of the topper was delayed, but it does feel more pleasant with both. The packaging was as minimal as it could be to still travel safely - an appreciated final step for an eco-friendly product!
This is how a mattress should be. Soft but firm, and cool but warm and cozy. I dont wake up sweating or too cold. Ive had back pain and nerve pain for two years (when i bought my previous bed) and since the second night i slept on this bed, I have been mostly pain free. I sleep through the night with more deep sleep and feel great during the day. I have it on a platform bed with tatami mats, and a snugglemate on top of the wool mattress. I use the wool neck pillow and ecowool pillow, along with a bolster for under my knees i made from the wool batting. Clearly I love this company's products. I will never buy a different bed again.
Need is a strong word and I am completely serious. This mattress will help improve your health. There will be an adjustment period. The human body was not made to lay in marshmallow plastic foam pads. Research sleep health and then come back and buy this mattress. I spent a long time researching different companies and none of them compare to the quality and sheer “no bad stuff” that Shepherd's Dream provides. I waited to write this review because I wanted to have used and lived in this mattress for a while. My husband and I have slept in this mattress for 18 months and I cannot recommend the switch enough. Even before we bought this mattress we saved and saved and waited and waited because we knew that this was exactly what we were looking for. A completely natural mattress. It is expensive, but it is 100% worth it. I was so determined to make sure that through out the course of our marriage that we do not buy disposable, brominated stuff that we made it work sleeping on a couch and on the floor to buy this debt free. The off gassing and chemicals that other mattresses are made out of us criminal. The buy new every few years or so makes us accustomed to buying ‘cheap’ things. This mattress is not cheap, but unlike 99% of all other mattresses, you can make this last a life time with proper care.
Let me tell you why this mattress is incredible.
The materials. It is wool. You can tell it is wool. The smell it has is earthy and a little grassy. It’s different than the chemical, sterile smell of a conventional mattress, but after one night, I fell in love with the smell of the wool. It puts you to sleep, it is so comforting. Be prepared for it to be a little weird at first, but you will love it if you give it a chance. Wool is so incredible, the anti fungal properties , temperature regulation, the fact that you CAN ACTUALLY CLEAN IT, I can go on and on. The most amazing part is that this mattress is just. wool. Nothing else. No latex, no foam padding. Just. Wool. That’s all it needs to be.
It is handmade. You can see the stitching, the hand written specifications on the tags. The checks and inspections that had to be signed off. I love it. I much prefer supporting people who have a trade and a skill and paying them directly instead of a mega corporation where you have no idea where the materials come from and how they were acquired. This is a far more personal experience and whenever I had any questions I could call them and they will actually talk with me. Even though this is handmade, it is quality, and you can see the hours that went into stuffing and batting and stitching. It is an incredible amount of work that goes into just one mattress. Now you know why it’s so expensive and why it takes 12 weeks to get to you. Everything they make is made to order. It’s a financial sacrifice and you’ll have to wait, but it is so so worth it.
It is firm. That’s a good thing. A very good thing. You might have a sore back for a couple of months, but that is your body getting used to sleeping in a more natural, bio-mechanical state. Once you adjust, you can tell the difference and it is shocking. The depth of sleep I can get is astounding, this was the kind of sleep that we should all be getting. You feel genuinely rested and my back pain slowly went away. It’s incredible. There’s so much more I can say about the health benefits, but after sleeping on a wool mattress for over a year I can never go back. This is something that everyone should have, and I mean that. So many of our health issues were helped by getting better sleep. Sleep is so important to good health, and if you suffer from a chronic illness, sleep is the major time your body heals itself and it is vital to improving.
I know this review is long winded, but if anyone was on the fence about if it’s worth it, I want to ease your reservations and tell you it is. It is not the same as a temper pedic
I love my wool mattress! Comfy and nontoxic, no springs just wool
