5 Signs of a Bad Mattress

5 Ways to tell if your Mattress is Bad

Most people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about their mattress. We spend hours every night sleeping on it, yet it’s one of the furthest things from our minds. The crazy thing is that poor sleep affects every aspect of our lives, so if you don’t have a great mattress, we suggest you think about it a little more.

Here are five signs you’re sleeping on a bad mattress (and it may be time to invest in a brand new wool mattress):

1. You wake up tired.

If you’re sleeping through a full night and still wake up feeling exhausted, your mattress could be to blame.

2. You suffer from allergies.

Over time, mattresses collect dust, which in turn attracts dust mites. Dust mites leave behind fecal matter that leave many of us dealing with allergies. In addition to dust mites, mattresses also start growing mold and mildew and collecting other bacteria over time.

3. You have back or body pain.

If you consistently wake up with a sore back or stiff muscles, it’s probably because your mattress isn’t supporting your spine correctly. Contrary to what some may think, you shouldn’t wake up from a good night’s sleep in pain.

4. You can’t get comfortable.

After some years of use, most mattresses start to sag, get lumpy and lose a lot of their firmness. If you’re tossing and turning all night because no position is comfortable, it’s time to get a new mattress.

5. You can’t remember how old it is.

How old is your mattress? If you can’t answer that question fairly quickly, that’s probably a sign it’s time for a new one. The life of a mattress depends on the initial quality, but even good quality mattresses don’t usually last a lifetime.

A quality mattress is an investment, but it can make a huge difference in your quality of sleep and your overall health.

At Shepherd’s Dream, we believe wool is one of the best materials to sleep on because it’s naturally hypoallergenic and chemical-free. Wool mattresses also provide excellent support and help you sleep your absolute best. With proper care, our mattresses are designed to last a lifetime!
