Introducing our new and exclusive Cabin Series Merino Wool Throw

Product Debut! The Cabin Merino Wool Throw 1

All-American Made

Given our commitment to doing things as close to home as possible, we looked for the right partner to bring our wool blanket dreams to life. The Cabin Merino Wool Throw is made in collaboration with Faribault Mill, an American institution of wool craftsmanship and tradition. They weave on site at their 157-year-old mill in Minnesota with extra-fine wool sourced from the US.

The quality of this blanket is a testament to the US wool and manufacturing industries. The wool industry in the United States has been struggling since the 1970s and 80s with the dominance in the textile market of more cheaply made synthetic fibers and fabrics. It’s our mission to support a thriving domestic wool and manufacturing industry by paying sheep ranchers a fair price for wool and by employing people in our manufacturing processes with fair wages. So not only is this blanket soft and warm, but it’s woven through with integrity as well.

Material Matters

The Cabin Merino Wool Throw is woven with yarns that combine the best of two sheep breeds: Merino and Rambouillet. Merino is well known in the textile world as the most common yarn for everything from base layers, socks, sweaters and beyond. Rambouillet is not as well known, but it comes with its own benefits.

Rambouillet is known as Rambouillet Merino or the French Merino, because the breed originates from the purchase of 300 Merino sheep in 1786 by King Louis XVI of France from his cousin Charles III of Spain. Over time, the breed traded a bit of its fiber luster for a longer staple length, giving it a bit more warmth and resilience. Rambouillet found a home here in the US, with an estimated 50% of the sheep population on the western ranges being Rambouillet.

So our Cabin Throw is not just super soft, it’s guaranteed to last through multiple seasons. It’ll be the layer you reach for over and over again.

The Comfort of Wool

As with all of our wool products, the Cabin Merino Wool Throw wraps you up in all the benefits of wool:

  • Breathable. Unlike synthetic fibers and fabrics which can trap air and moisture, wool allows airflow to pass through so you don’t get that uncomfortably clammy feeling.
  • Moisture Wicking. Wool is a master moisture manager, absorbing up to 30% of its own weight in fluid. This means it takes moisture away from the surface of your skin so you’re nothing but cozy.
  • Hypoallergenic. For allergy sufferers and anyone with sensitivities, wool is the perfect solution because it doesn’t harbor dust mites and has no chemicals. Learn more about wool and allergies here
  • Sustainable. Wool is renewable, regenerative, and biodegradable. After its long life, our wool products happily break down into the soil instead of contributing to overstuffed landfills.
  • Durable and Easy Care. With proper care, your Cabin Merino Wool Throw will be with you a long time. Just give it some sunshine once or twice a year and spot clean as necessary with a wool-safe cleanser, we recommend Eucalan

Classic Warmth and Style

The Cabin Merino Wool Throw is versatile—with classic good looks like these, you’ll drape it around you everywhere from the couch to the campsite to the football stadium to the beach. When it arrived, we paired its traditional plaid with everything from earthy neutrals, busy florals, crinkled textures, and smooth velvet, and there wasn’t anything it couldn’t vibe with.

We’re really excited about this blanket and we look forward to adding to the Cabin Series line in the future—stay tuned!
