What’s the big deal about wool bedding?

Sleep More Soundly
Studies show that people sleeping with wool bedding have a lower heart rate, less sleep disturbance, and increased duration of beneficial REM sleep. Wool naturally thermo-regulates and is remarkably comfortable in all seasons.
In the winter, wool warms without overheating or causing clamminess. Conversely, in spring and summer, it helps to keep you cool by wicking moisture away from your skin. This capability makes wool the ideal material for bedding as it helps your body to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night, regardless of the season.
Wool bedding is especially helpful for those who experience night-sweats or hot flashes. It’s the most effective when the entire bed is made of natural, breathable fibers.
Reduces Common Bedroom Allergies
Wool is naturally resistant to mold and mildew. It quickly absorbs and releases moisture, and thus doesn’t allow the damp conditions that molds and mildews thrive on. Other fibers, such as down and cotton, don’t readily release moisture and are therefore more susceptible to collecting allergens.
Naturally Fire-Resistant
The protective lanolin coating found in wool makes it naturally resistant to combustion. Wool bedding is able to pass flame retardant tests without the use of added toxic chemicals commonly found in traditional bedding.
Enhanced Comfort and Relief
Wool mattress pads and mattress toppers provide additional relief from painful pressure points as you rest. People suffering from chronic pain such as arthritis, fibromyalgia and bed-sores often find comfort with wool.
Zero Shifting
The coiled, textured wool fibers grab onto each other, forming a stable matrix. For this reason, wool won’t have bare spots, like down, when used in bedding.
Chemical and Bleach Free
Many people who suffer allergies and chemical sensitivities find refuge with our pure, natural bedding products. Even those who have wool allergies can often tolerate our bedding due to the careful way in which we clean and process the wool.
Sustainable, Local and Cruelty Free
Our wool growers agree to raise their sheep humanely following sustainable criteria. The sheep aren’t harmed during the shearing process and the wool is processed without the use of chemicals. Our EcoWool is entirely derived from local flocks of sheep that are raised following specific criteria that ensures top quality wool.
Our Oregon grown, wool batting is produced at the Woolgatherer Carding Mill, located down the road from Shepherd’s Dream. Wool is also a natural material that is biodegradable and can even be composted.
